Public Free Wi-Fi

The Hon’ble Minister for Finance and Human Resource Management during Budget Session 2023-2024 has made the announcement that provision of Free Wi-Fi zones in popular public places.

As Phase-1, it was decided to implement 1000 Wi-Fi Access points in Chennai at Beaches, Bus Terminus, Bus Shelters, Parks and Government Hospitals in the locations wherever EB power is readily available.

Hon'ble Chief Minister inaugurated the Free WiFi program on 23.02.2024 for public use with 500 Access points in Chennai.

As on July 2024, 958 Free Wi-Fi access points have been installed in Chennai.
